Poker is a card game of chance with quite a bit of psychology and skill involved. It is often played with two to 14 players and is a game of betting and not simply the highest hand. It is a very popular game with many different variants and tournament play.<\/p>\n
A poker game starts with the player to the dealer\u2019s left posting two mandatory bets, known as blinds. These bets give the players something to chase and keep the games moving. They move one spot clockwise after each deal and help create the pot that the players compete for at the end of a hand.<\/p>\n
Once the cards are dealt and the blinds have been placed each player will make a bet into the pot at their turn. The betting around the table is done in a clockwise fashion and the highest hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n
If a player has a high enough hand he may choose to call or raise a bet by the other players. This is when a player decides to stay in the hand and hope for more luck or to take advantage of someone else\u2019s bad luck by raising their bet.<\/p>\n
A high hand is usually a pair of aces, threes or fives but can include higher hands as well. Higher hands can also include fours and flushes. When hands tie the highest rank is determined by using a rule called seeding.
