Casinos make their money by taking a percentage of the total amount of bets placed. In games where skill is involved, the house edge is mathematically determined and uniformly negative (from the player’s perspective). In games such as poker, where players compete against each other, the casino earns money via a commission, known as rake.<\/p>\n
Despite their lucrative business, casinos are not without risks. They are vulnerable to theft and fraud, and they can harm local real estate values. To combat these threats, many casinos have invested a great deal of money in technology.
